Cuba - Holiday 2007
Here we
are, 12 months after our last holiday. So you may say, what it's all
about, why did they waited so long? Well, the last year was hectic -
the first priority was to buy a house. Once that was sorted we had a
variety of commitments so going on holiday wasn't top of the list. But
eventually it became a priority, after a lot of thoughts and saving
some money we are on our way to Cuba. Yes I know what you'll
think, going to the Caribbean is not that expensive. Actually depends
how you are going to go, and we are not talking about 5 stars hotels
and luxurious spa, but more about an ethical holiday with traidcraft.
This is how Traidcraft describe this tour : "Colourful
orchards, sandy beaches and vibrant
towns provide a stunning backdrop to our journey around Cuba. This tour
offers an opportunity to see first hand how fair trade work in a now
unique political setting. We will visit citrus farmers in Ciego de
Avila, who supply Fruit Passion Juice, and learn how fair trade
premiums are invested in collective projects by their cooperatives.
Visits to sites commemorating the revolution give an insight into
Cuba's complex social history and there'll be plenty of opportunity to
enjoy Cuba's lively artistic and musical scene.
Multicolor
Travel has been organising specialist trips in Cuba for five
years. Seeing their tours as social and cultural 'exchanges',
Multicolor offer you the chance to learn about Cuba's fascinating
places and stories from the people. Jesus Noguera is an experienced
guide who is passionate about his country and has a deep understanding
of the cultural, economic and political issues of Cuban life."
So it's going to be a different way to enjoy the island, a little less
on the touristic route, a little more in contact with the local
community.
Below the two links to the travel diary that will be update from the
socialist country, so why two ? As you'll see yourself the first one is
a little more flashy and interactive, while the second is quite plain.
We thought to have a Plan B if the cuban computers don't like the
flashy one:-). As a word of advice, just check the both of them ... you
never know
