Ready for some Horbital TV

It was the beginning of February when during a windy day we’d lost the majority of the channels on our telly. Since then we contacted a number of professonals and being provided with various quotes. Considering the cost involved into having someone going onto the roof we decided that installing a satellite dish would have make sense.

The truth is that after more than 5 years in Scotland the need to watch foreign Tv channels became clear. Being able to watch not only more UK channels but also some Italian and Spanish channels was an idea that has being in my mind for sometime.

Now this was the right opporunity, but as usual things tend to get messy. In this case the problem is that the roof is steep and with a narrow access. For this reason the first 3 installers deemed it as an impossible job. Then I’ve got some “non-competitive” quotes I.e. too expensive.

Just few days ago I found my man! The installer that can do it – no problem! I decided to buy all the equipment myself via eBay. Well during the last few days I’ve got a number of couriers delivering very interesting items (see pictures).

In about a week everything will be installed! I’ll keep you posted on how we are getting on.Satellite

Let’s go to England #2

After driving under an hour from Carlisle we got to the first lake that we plan to visit:Derwent Water. The scenic lake is just down the road from the pretty village of Keswick. After travelling by train and car it was definitely time to start using our legs! Off we went for a nice flat walk around the lake. The whole thing is rather impressive, the lake is gorgeous, very lively with people, boats dogs and birds. The walk started with an extremely warm sun, and a light breeze. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to last so in our 2 hours walk we’ve enjoyed sun and snow in an interesting alternation.

A couple of things to be said, in this time of the year where water sports are virtually banned there are just three types of people in the lake district. The walkers – you can recognise them because they sport the following items: stylish waterproof gear, ultra light weight cane and a detailed map of the area around their neck. The dog lovers – these are not difficult to distinguish. I’ve never seen before so many dogs all together, they are everywhere – honest. The tourist – like us they wonder around, without the extreme equipment that the Walkers use and with no dog. They seem to enjoy themselves walking (not to far) and taking pictures (way too many).

The village of Keswick is like a mountain village on the Italian Dolomites, small cosy without big hotels and very much anchored to the British tradition. A lot of pubs and local stores around, it seems to me that the globalisation didn’t managed to this far. The only exception of what above is the local FIAT car dealer, with a sporty new 500!
