What is going on …

You’ve probably noticed a slow down in updating this website. The truth is that I just realised that time is limited, but I also think that this due by working in front of a computer everyday makes you willing to do something else once back home.Fortunately there are still weekends and days off. For this reason I’m testing and learning new things (Flash …) to make the website a little more interactive.

Please feel more than free to suggest me something that you’d like to appear on this blog. I don’t know, maybe a question and answer post could be interesting. So if you have any questions about, virtually anything, this is the time :)

Pedalling around

Edinburgh is a nice wee city, fairly compact and with decent streets. For this reason a little more than one year ago I got rid of my bus pass and bought a bicycle. I have to admit that ever since I’ve also discovered the drawbacks of cycling – yes sometime it rains here! Also some part of town are hilly and the wind can really stop you.All considered, that was one of the better decision that I’ve ever taken. Even during the winter, there nothing better in a cold morning to cycle to work. Now, I have to admit that safety can be an issue. So it is important not to be shy with high visibility garments and lights.

Considering that going to work is a 15min ride each way, it is also a good half an hour of cardiovascular exercise 5 days a week. In other words you can save on a gym membership.

So if you are not too far away, give it a try! You can buy a second had bike for less than

TV without Television!

Recently Edinburgh experienced extremely windy days. During one of those the unexpected happened, the TV aerial snap and the reception suffered ever since. We seemed to be stuck with about half the number of channels that we used to see. So what to do? The first action was to catch up using TV through internet. Is incredible how the offer of online TV contents have improved in the last few months. Here in the UK the clear leader is the BBC with its iPlayer. This service allows UK users to catch up on the majority of the programs broadcasted by the network. This service is limited to material broadcasted in the last 7 days. Personally I find it great, the quality of the Video player is more than acceptable and the streaming speed is also good. Other UK channels are offering similar services like 4OD (Channel 4) and five.tv (Channel 5). The two main differences are that the latter are not free and they also require users to install a specific software for watching programmes. Not extremely convenient but a good service if you are desperate to catch up an episode of your favourite series.

You wouldn’t believe but 5 weeks after the antenna decided to go for a walk! I’m still chasing up the installer to have it fixed. I would do it myself but I don’t fancy roof walking :)
